The most important factor in preparing to purchase a home – especially if you are a first-time buyer – is to talk with a reputable lender and understand your mortgage options.  You should know what type of a loan would best suit you and your maximum qualification amount, along with anticipated monthly payment expectations.  Your agent can help you find the right lender and can make recommendations.

Also, you should think about timing and the type of home you would like within your budget, and the amenities that are the most important to you.  It would be helpful to have some idea of the locations you would prefer, although if you are moving into San Diego from another state this may not be practical.  We are always happy to discuss location possibilities with you and offer suggestions for communities which may best meet your needs.
